چکیده

Recently, it was demonstrated that the insertion of TCO layers between the compound cells of tandem cells allows a shift of current generation from the bottom to the top cell [1]. This concept is particularly useful to increase the performance of a-Si:H/μc-Si:H tandem cells. In this paper we analyse experimental and optical modelling results of very different tandem cell structures in order to asses the full potential of the intermediate reflector concept. Whereas the wavelength response of the reflector is found to be well explained by coherent reflection at the TCO layer, the magnitude of current generation is found to be a strong function of texturing effects.

Improving the optical properties of thin film plasmonic solar cells of InP absorber layer using nanowires

In this paper, a thin-film InP-based solar cell designed and simulated. The proposed InP solar cell has a periodic array of plasmonic back-reflector, which consists of a silver layer and two silver nanowires. The indium tin oxide (ITO) layer also utilized as an anti-reflection coating (ARC) layer on top. The design creates a light-trapping structure by using a plasmonic back-reflector and an an...

High-efficiency Micromorph Silicon Solar Cells with In-situ Intermediate Reflector Deposited on Various Rough Lpcvd Zno

Light management using intermediate reflector layers (IRL) and advanced front transparent conductive oxide (TCO) morphologies is needed to rise the short-circuit current density (Jsc) of micromorph tandem solar cells above 14 mA/cm. For micromorph cells deposited on surface-textured ZnO layers grown by low-pressure chemical vapour deposition (LPCVD), we study the interplay between the front TCO...

Self-patterned nanoparticle layers for vertical interconnects: application in tandem solar cells.

We demonstrate self-patterned insulating nanoparticle layers to define local electrical interconnects in thin-film electronic devices. We show this with thin-film silicon tandem solar cells, where we introduce between the two component cells a solution-processed SiO2 nanoparticle layer with local openings to allow for charge transport. Because of its low refractive index, high transparency, and...

Light-management Strategies for Thin-film Silicon Multijunction Solar Cells

Light management is of crucial importance to reach high efficiencies with thin-film silicon multijunction solar cells. In this contribution, we present lightmanagement strategies that we recently developed. This includes high quality absorber materials, low-refractive index intermediate reflectors, and highly transparent multiscale electrodes. Specifically, we show the fabrication of high-effic...

Progress in Amorphous and "micromorph" Silicon Solar Cells

LP-CVD ZnO has been developed at IMT as front TCO for amorphous silicon p-i-n single-junction and “micromorph” (microcrystalline/amorphous silicon) tandem solar cells. In comparison with SnO2 (Asahi type U), ZnO demonstrates superior light-trapping behaviour. Applying the monolithic series connection by laser-scribing, both for amorphous single-junction and micromorph tandem cells, modules have...
